Partnerships between two Auckland clubs and their regional federation will aim to boost participation at December’s National Youth Futsal Championships.
Northern Region Football will continue its club partnership model with the Auckland City and East Coast Bays clubs to send 12 teams to the championships in Wellington.
The teams will draw on young futsal players in the region, including those with no existing association with either club.
The championships will take place in Wellington from December 14-17, 2023.
Twelve teams will travel with six mixed and six girls teams from the U-15, U-17 and U-19 age groups.
Players wanting to take part should contact either of the clubs:
East Coast Bays – register your interest
Auckland City FC – register your interest
ECB’s Director of Football Joseph Hall said:
“We’re excited because we want to offer as many different kinds of playing opportunities as possible, and offering futsal is another way to do that.
“We are really proud to be given the opportunity to put together a programme that can represent players on the North Shore, and for them to do so at NYFC.
“We think it’s something we can throw ourselves behind to do a really good job.”
After a two-day programme held in the September school holidays, Bays will run a six-week training programme in the lead-up to the national championships.
Auckland City’s Nic Downes said:
“We’ve got the coaches in place and venues booked, so really excited to get underway and get the word out in the futsal community that this is happening and a great opportunity to get involved.
“This is the third time we’ve worked together with NRF on futsal partnerships and it’s great to build up that history and experience for players — especially in the youth space, which leads into other opportunities like Ford Futsal SuperLeague.
“We’re grateful to NRF for the opportunity and support.”
