WaiBOP Football have appointed Jack McGovern as a Federation Development Officer (FDO) based in the Hamilton office.
McGovern, who moved to New Zealand from the United Kingdom in June, has many years of experience, having worked strategically with the English FA and clubs to improve football provision and grow participation.
In his previous roles, in the UK, McGovern worked with sports clubs to develop their strategic approach to participation, current and future facility management, and governance.
Announcing his appointment, the federation said this experience was important as one of his key roles with WaiBOP Football will be to work with the region’s clubs to improve their capability and capacity.
“Jack has strong sport development and project management skills,” WaiBOP said.
McGovern (27) started his role in September.
Since his arrival from the UK, McGovern has had a spectacular start to football in New Zealand.
Normally a goalkeeper, he joined Melville United as a forward and scored in his Northern League debut.
He became a first-team regular and played in the Chatham Cup final for Melville on September 10.
