Birkenhead United have been the most successful men’s team since the national U-19s tournaments began in Napier in 1977.
Though winners were not recorded for the first three years, Auckland clubs have emerged as the most common winners of the tournament.
About 1,300 of the country’s top youth footballers play at the Napier tournament over Labour Weekend.
