VIDEO: Marley Leuluai’s proud dad on why he didn’t follow him into rugby league

Former rugby league international Kylie Leuluai has explained how his teenage son has chosen his own path into professional sport, signing with English Premier League club Burnley.

“Obviously I played rugby league and I thought he might follow my path but he chose a different one, mainly because we’re based in England and it’s the top sport over here in the UK,” Leuluai Snr told TVNZ’s Breakfast programme.

“At school, everyone plays football. He loved rugby until he went to school and then things changed and opportunities came.”

Marley Leuluai signed his first professional contract with Burnley on his 17th birthday, a week before he plays for New Zealand at the FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup in Indonesia.
