New Zealand’s Oceania neighbours New Caledonia have been overrun 10-0 in their opening Group C match at the FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup in Indonesia.
For England, it was their biggest-ever win at an U-17 World Cup finals, eclipsing their previous best victory, a 5-0 win against New Zealand in 2007.
England’s job was made easier by the sending off of New Caledonia’s Nolhann Alebate at the start of the second-half, when the player was involved in an off-the-ball incident against England’s Myles Lewis-Skelly.
After the match, England’s Justin Oboavwoduo said: “We wanted to win the game by a convincing margin. It was important we made a statement. Personally, when you come to competitions like this, you want to open your [goalscoring] account early and get into good habits. It was good for me to score two, even if I would have loved to have scored more!”

New Caledonia’s next group match is against Brazil, who lost their opening game 1-0 to Iran.
