Waiheke United face nine-hour trek for pre-season friendlies at Ngongotaha

Waiheke United players and supporters face a nine-hour round-trip for pre-season friendlies against Ngongotaha Lakes in late February.

Travelling by ferry and road, the club’s men’s first team and U-23 side will play Ngongotaha Lakes at Stembridge Rd, Ngongotaha, on Saturday February 24, 2024.

Ngongotaha will use the day to celebrate their annual club day.

“A big thank you to Waiheke United for coming down to Ngongotaha,” the club says in its social media promotion of the event.

“Logistically, it’s a difficult trip so we are extremely grateful to host. We look forward to building a good and strong friendship. We welcome all supporters and players.”

Waiheke United will play in the Lotto NRFL Northern Conference in 2024 after finishing bottom of last season’s Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship.

Ngongotaha Lakes will compete in the Lotto NRF Southern Conference, after finishing in second bottom place last term.

Meanwhile, Ngongotaha Lakes have lined up a busy pre-season programme that includes games against Te Puke (away, March 2), Otumoetai (home, March 9), New Plymouth Rangers (away, March 16) and West Hamilton (venue TBC, March 23).
