Otago club Mosgiel have appointed former university coach Max Frear as head coach for next season’s men’s Southern Premier League campaign.

Mosgiel won the title in 2023 and Frear (25) says he “feels privileged to take charge of the Men’s Premier Team and looks forward to building on the club’s recent success.”

Mosgiel won the ODT Southern Premier League last season, four points clear of nearest rivals Roslyn Wakari in the 10-team competition.

Frear coached the Otago University men’s premier team for two seasons, leading them through a difficult transition period in 2022 when the club were unable to enter the Southern League.

With a squad with an average age of 19, Frear consolidated the university team’s position and finished seventh in the Southern Premier League last season.
