Birkenhead United appoint Jordan Roberts as women’s head coach

Promoted Birkenhead United have named Jordan Roberts as head coach for their Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship side.

Roberts (44) joins Birkenhead from Eastern Suburbs where he coached youth players and was an assistant coach at Women’s National League level.

“I am excited to be joining Birkenhead United and working with a committed group of people to help continue moving the female game forward at the club,” Roberts has told Birkenhead supporters.

Roberts, who will also head Birkenhead United’s girls Talent Development Programme (TDP) has had stints with Northern Rovers and Auckland United, where he was an academy head coach and senior women’s assistant coach.

Prior to the merger that formed Auckland United, Roberts coached at Three Kings United.

Birkenhead will play in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship in 2024 after winning last season’s NRF Women’s Conference.

However, they appeared to have missed promotion when they lost a one-off play-off 3-1 to WaiBOP W-League champions Melville United.

But the partnership formed by two Bay of Plenty teams, Tauranga City and Otumoetai, left a vacant slot in the Championship, opening the way for Birkenhead to join Melville in the move to a higher competition.
