Former New Zealand U-20 goalkeeper Tessa Nicol has joined Otago’s Mosgiel club as assistant coach of their men’s Southern Premier League squad.
Nicol (27) joins head coach Max Frear (25) in the dugout as Mosgiel backs up their 2023 success when they took the title.
Nicol returns to the club she started with as a junior player.

“I am excited to be back in the dugout and working with the team, and I can’t wait to be on Memorial Park again,” she told club supporters via social media.
Nicol was a goalkeeper for New Zealand at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2016 and she has since coached the national U-20 ‘keepers. She also trained with the Football Ferns.
She was the women’s development officer at Football South until late 2020, when she left to extend her studies.
More recently, she’s coached at Roslyn Wakari and Women’s National League side Southern United.

In 2020, Nicol was one of three New Zealanders selected to take part in a global FIFA scheme to boost the ranks of women’s coaches.
