VIDEO: Ferns ‘keeper Vic Esson reaches second Scottish Cup final with Rangers

Football Ferns goalkeeper Vic Esson will play back-to-back Scottish Cup finals after her Rangers side beat arch-rivals Celtic 3-2 in an incident-laden semi-final.

Esson (32) conceded two penalties while Rangers grabbed a late winner, also from the penalty spot, to win the do-or-die game at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.

The semi-final win avenges last season’s cup final, watched by 10,446 at Scotland’s Hampden Stadium, when Celtic lifted the cup with a 2-0 win.

Rangers await the result of Sunday’s Sky Sports-sponsored SWPL Cup semi-final, between Hibernian and Partick Thistle, to see who they will face in the final on Sunday March 24.

Esson joined Rangers in 2022 after playing with German Bundesliga side SC Sand and Norwegian side Avaldsnes.

The Christchurch-born goalkeeper played her club football for Coastal Spirit and North Shore United in New Zealand, and was part of the national squad at the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups.
