Birkenhead United sign All Whites striker Monty Patterson from league rivals

Northern League club Birkenhead United have announced the signing of New Zealand international Monty Patterson from league rivals Manurewa.

Patterson (27) is a 15-cap All White who has been developing his coaching career alongside playing, setting up his coaching business @coach__monty.

Last season, he was head coach of the Manurewa U-23 side and prepared Rewa’s U-17 and U-19 squads for national tournaments.

Birkenhead United say he’ll coach their 13th grade TDP team.

Patteson spent two seasons at Manurewa after joining the club from Auckland United.

He finished third in the 2023 Northern League’s Golden Boot, scoring 13 goals in the 22-round competition, despite being sidelined for much of the first half of the season.

Birkenhead have also announced the signing of Irish defender Dylan Connolly (23) who played for Lucan United in Dyblin, and was awarded two caps paying for the Republic of Ireland junior teams.

He captained U-17 and U-19 teams at the academies of Irish clubs Shelbourne and Drogheda United.
