Former coach Rob Cox has been appointed as head coach of the Matamata Swifts women’s team to compete in the 2024 Waikato Women’s Division 1.

Cox (45) was the team’s coach prior to 2022 and he returns for another campaign, assisted by Scott Hudson.

In his club’s announcement of his role, Cox said: “An important part of the club’s mission is to build the strength and depth of women’s and girls football in Matamata

“We have a solid group of senior players who are Swifts already, or have been recently. We want to build them into a competitive team, and one that also has a heap of fun while doing it.

“There’s been a lot of interest in girls football in Matamata at the junior and youth level over the last few seasons, so we’d also like the team to be one that our junior footballers can enjoy watching and, hopefully, be inspired by.”

Cox will make contact with current players directly but invites new players to contact the club via email.
