Former All Whites midfielder Mark Atkinson joins Auckand United coaching staff

Auckland United have appointed former All Whites midfielder Mark Atkinson as the club’s U-23 and U-17 men’s head coach.

Atkinson (53), who earned 37 caps for the All Whites between 1993 and 2001, joins the club from Wellington where he coached at the Olé Academy and the Western Suburbs club.

“Mark joins us after six years as the Head of Senior Phase at Olé Academy, where he specialised in the transition of youth players into the senior football space, as well as exit strategies for aspiring professionals,” Auckland United said of their new staff member.

Before joining Olé, Atkinson spent eight years playing in Singapore and Australia. He spent two seasons with the New Zealand-based A-League club Football Kingz.

Atkinson represented New Zealand at age-group and full international level.

“We are delighted to have Mark join our staff and look forward to having players and parents meeting before pre-season training in the next few weeks,” the club said on its website.
