Age group international Jorge Akers has left Central League club Waterside Karori to join Melbourne club Eastern Lions.
The left-sided attacker Akers (23) scored eight goals for the Wharfies during their 2023 Central League campaign, after joining the club from crosstown rivals Miramar Rangers. His time at Rangers was badly disrupted by a serious leg injury in November 2021.
Akers has represented New Zealand at U-20 level, and played for the national U-23 side at the 2019 Pacific Games.
The Lions play in Victoria Premier League 1, a semi-professional league which is at the third-tier level of Australian football.
