Women’s coach John Ellis has returned to Auckland club Bucklands Beach after his departure from Metro FC.

In an announcement to the club’s social media followers, Bucklands Beach said: “We are very thrilled to welcome John Ellis back to Bucklands Beach AFC where he began his coaching journey when he first arrived in New Zealand.

“John is a local dad, who has coached many teams across Auckland in the youth, senior and most recently female space,
where his team last year finished second in the Conference league.

“We are excited to see what our newly developed women’s first team can do under the supportive guidance of John as they enter 2024.

“This helps as create a competitive pathway for our female players, and giving the young girls of our community something to strive for.”

In early February 2024, Metro said Ellis had resigned as their women’s first team coach after being approached by another club.

Under Ellis’ leadership, Metro finished second in last season’s six-team competition behind Birkenhead United, who have been promoted to the 2024 Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship.
