Giantkillers Oxford avoid big guns in quarter-final draw for English Cup

posted in: News, Southern League

Canterbury cup giantkillers Oxford FC have been rewarded with a home quarter-final in the English Cup, avoiding the five Southern League clubs left in the competition.

Oxford will host Western who are currently struggling without a win after three rounds of Canterbury’s New World Men’s Premiership.

Oxford, who play in the Mainland Football Senior Men’s Division 1 (the fourth tier of Mainland Football) caused a major upset in the first round of the English Cup, knocking out Southern League club FC Twenty 11, beating them 1-0 on ANZAC Day.

More than 20 places separated the two clubs on the Mainland Football pyramid.

The quarter-final draw for the Morrison Mitsubishi English Cup ensures at least two more Southern League clubs will be eliminated.
