Friends of Football have hosted another successful annual charity golf day, with more than a hundred football enthusiasts enjoying a day together to raise funds to support football-related projects.
The event at Huapai Golf Club on Thursday May 9, 2024, was Friends of Football’s ninth annual golf day as teams of four competed for the coveted Bill MacGowan Memorial Trophy.
The trophy was won by the Northern Union Bill MacGowan Team.

A charity auction proved popular, with some great funds raised for Friends of Football’s work in the community, with the Toyo Tires, Taupo Golfing Getaway and Eagle Fishing Charter proving popular.
Some interesting football memorabilia was auctioned, including a Wellington Phoenix shirt signed by the current men’s squad, and a book autographed by the full Manchester United squad when they toured New Zealand in 1967.

Remembering Bill MacGowan
Our trophy for the winning team is named after the late Bill MacGowan, one of New Zealand sport’s best administrators, who died in 2018.
With the help of Bill’s wife, Trish, we introduced the trophy in his name for our 2019 golf day.
We’re proud to celebrate the memory of Bill MacGowan again this year.
