Northern Rovers have extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League after a 2-1 win at Hamilton Wanderers.

Meanwhile, in other Sunday fixtures, Ellerslie beat Tauranga City 3-0 while West Coast Rangers and Eastern Suburbs shared a 2-2 draw.

Here’s our round-up of latest games in the WPL:

Green double keeps Rovers’ lead intact

Two goals from Talisha Green gave league leaders Northern Rovers a 2-1 win against Hamilton Wanderers at Porritt Stadium.

Green opened the scoring in the 25th minute and that provided the visitors with their 1-0 half-time lead.

In the 54th minute, she scored her second.

Lily Brazendale pulled back a goal in the 74th minute but neither side could improve their tally and the game ended 2-1.

Early goals swing game in favour of Ellerslie

Ellerslie took the initiative early to make sure of three points earned at Tauranga City’s Links Ave.

Sarah Carpenter put the visitors ahead after only seven minutes before Hollie Leona added another, from the penalty spot, four minutes later.

From then on, it was always going to be a big ask for Tauranga.

However they kept the Ponies scoreless for the next 70 minutes of play, until Britney Cunningham-Lee made it 3-0 for Ellerslie.

Rangers and Suburbs share points with 2-2 draw

Juliette Lucas moved to the top of the WPL Golden Boot table with the opening goal for Eastern Suburbs in their 2-2 draw with West Coast Rangers at Fred Taylor Park.

Lucas found the net for the eighth time this season when she scored in the 9th minute.

Te Waiariki Read levelled for Rangers after 17 minutes.

Rangers took the lead five minutes before half-time when Suburbs’ Emma Wong was credited with an own goal.

Suburbs found their equaliser after 58 minutes through Deven Jackson, and the sides played out a scoreless last half hour to share the points.

Suburbs now rank as the competition’s top goalscorers, despite their fourth placing, while Rangers can be well pleased at finding the net twice, after struggling in front of goal so far this season.
