New Zealand internationals Max Mata and Nando Pijnaker have lost their ticket into European football with the elimination of their Sligo Rovers side from the Europa Conference League.
Rovers beat Norwegian side Viking FK 1-0 at their Showgrounds home on Friday August 12 (NZT) to take the second leg of their tie but lost 5-2 on aggregate over the two legs.
League of Ireland club Rovers had beaten Welsh side Bala Town in the first qualifying tie and then knocked out Scotland’s Motherwell in the second qualifying round.
