Rangers break down Wanderers’ resistance to win in Women’s Premier League

posted in: News

West Coast Rangers cruised to a 5-1 win against Hamilton Wanderers in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League.

But they had to be patient after Wanderers led for half an hour and put up plenty of resistance at Fred Taylor Park.

The Waikato visitors went ahead after 15 minutes through Ayla Koopu and almost made it into the half-time dressing rooms with their lead but Rangers found an equaliser through Emily Lyon at the end of the half.

Rangers emerged from the break with a sense of urgency that led to a burst of scoring.

Chloe Bellamy put Rangers ahead two minutes after the restart.

Lorna Selby extended the lead to 3-1 in the 55th minute.

Then, Cara Lonergan and Bellamy added more goals in the 64th and 68th minutes.

With a 5-1 lead, Rangers were able to use all their subs and cruise to the finish line.

The result doesn’t change the table positions but ensures both teams stay in 8th (Rangers) and 9th (Wanderers), regardless of the results from the final round.
