Young Matildas defender Claudia Cicco has signed with women’s A-League club Newcastle Jets after the expiration of her contract with the Wellington Phoenix.

The Jets have announced the versatile Cicco (18) would be in their Liberty A-League squad for the 2023-24 season, saying she could play in a number of positions ranging from centre back to striker, or play in a wide role.

Originally from Sydney, Cicco played junior and youth football in New South Wales before joining the Phoenix where she made 13 first team appearances.

She made her debut for Australia’s U-20 team this year, scoring a hat-trick against Guam.
