VIDEO: Watch ‘keeper Max Tommy score last minute goal in Chatham Cup final

Melville United goalkeeper Max Tommy will forever be remembered as the scorer of one of the Chatham Cup’s most memorable goals in its 100-year history.

As the 2023 Chatham Cup final entered its eighth minute of stoppage time, Melville trailed 2-1 to Christchurch United.

The Waikato side were awarded a free kick just outside the Christchurch penalty area.

With nothing to lose, Tommy ran forward to join his Melville teammates in front of goal.

Tommy’s goal sent the game into extra time, and then to penalties.
