Wellington Olympic striker Gianni Bouzoukis leads race for men’s Golden Boot

Wellington Olympic’s Gianni Bouzoukis has taken a clear lead in the race for the Golden Boot in the 2023 Men’s National League.

After six rounds, the Olympic marksman has scored six goals, one more than nearest rivals Deri Corfe (Napier City Rovers) and Angus Kilkolly (Auckland City).

Bouzoukis (25) is shooting for back-to-back Golden Boots after sharing last year’s award with Cashmere Technical’s Garbhan Coughlan.

He’s also on the verge of scoring his 100th first-team goal for Olympic, having registered number 99 against Petone in the 2-1 win in Round 6.

He is third on the club’s list of all-time goalscorers, behind Harry Kotsapas (130) and Chris Christie Yiavasis (103).

Of the three, Bouzoukis has the best strike rate, having scored his 99 in 124 matches (0.79 per game).

Kotsapas scored his at a rate of 0.34 and Chris Christie Yiavasis at 0.40.
