MAP midfielder Marshall Gurney returns to former club Papakura City

Papakura City have signed experienced midfielder Marshall Gurney from Mt Albert-Ponsonby.

Gurney (30) made more than 100 first team appearances in five seasons with MAP but has opted to drop two divisions to help drive a resurgence for his former club, Papakura City, under new coach Peter Martin.

Papakura will play in the NRF League One, while MAP compete in the Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship.

Gurney told Papakura supporters via the club’s social media channel: “Playing at McLennan Park for the blue and white again will bring back good memories along with some familiar faces. Let’s get Pap back to where it used to be!”

Head coach Martin said: “It is awesome for someone to return to Papakura with the level of character and technical ability Marshall offers.”

Technical director Matt Bouma said: “Having Marshall return to Papakura is golden. Marshy and I have a long history; his desire to be the best on and off the pitch is the exact character our men’s environment needs to flourish to the next level.”

Papakura start pre-season training on Tuesday January 30, 2024, holding sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week.
