Former Auckland winger Thomas Golding joins Melbourne NPL club

Former Northern League winger Thomas Golding has signed for Melbourne club Manningham United Blues.

Golding (23) joins the National Premier League Victoria club from rivals Eastern Lions, whom he joined when moving from Auckland in 2023.

The free-scoring winger previously played for Manukau United, Birkenhead United, Bucklands Beach, Bay Olympic, Waitakere United, Auckland City, Central United and Three Kings United.

Announcing his signing, Manningham United Blues said: “Tom joins us from Eastern Lions where he had an outstanding season, running at defences and scoring some amazing goals. The speedy and classy winger will bring a different dimension to the Manningham attack, and we cannot wait to see him in the Manningham colours.”

Golding follows a number of New Zealand players in joining the Melbourne club, whose past players include All Whites Chris Jackson (1993-94) and Ben Sigmund (2006) and age group international Dakota Lucas (2015).

(The club was called Fawkner Azzuri and Fawkner Blues until adopting its current name in 2014 following the merger of Fawkner and Manningham United,)

Former Wellington Phoenix midfielder Vince Lia played at the club (2005), as did Solomon Islands captain Henry Fa’arodo, who won Victoria’s Player of the Year when playing for Fawkner Blues in 2002.
