Chris Milicich joins Northern Rovers as club’s new director of football

Northern Rovers have appointed experienced coach Chris Milicich as the club’s new director of football.

Milicich (58) joins Rovers after resigning last September from a similar role at local rivals Takapuna.

He replaces Paul Gothard who is leaving Rovers to take up a goalkeeper coaching role with the Philippines national body.

Milicich will take up his role at Rovers on Friday March 1, 2024, and will work with Gothard to run junior and youth ID sessions over coming weeks.

Announcing the appointment, Northern Rovers told its followers: “Chris brings a unique blend of strategic vision and tactical expertise to our club gained from an extensive career.”

Past roles include coaching New Zealand’s men’s U-20 side, and having won National League titles and the OFC Champions League and held director of football roles with Three Kings United and St Peters College.

“Chris demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and a deep understanding of the intricacies of the beautiful game and holds a UEFA A licence,” Rovers said.

“His passion for nurturing talent and building successful teams aligns perfectly with our club’s values and ambitions.

“As director of football, Chris will play a pivotal role in tactical planning and performance analysis. His keen eye for talent and astute decision-making will be instrumental in improving our squads and achieving our goals on and off the pitch.

“We believe that Chris’s appointment heralds an exciting new chapter for our club, and we are confident that his expertise and leadership will inspire our players, staff, and supporters alike.”
