WATCH: Ferns ‘keeper Vic Esson collects second Scottish cup winner’s medal

New Zealand international Vic Esson has helped her Rangers club achieve an historic Scottish Cup win, beating Hearts 2-0 in a final at Hamden.

Rangers’ women had never won the Scottish Cup before and the victory gives them a domestic cup double, having already carried off the League Cup.

In front of more than 4,000 spectators, Rangers were always favourites to win and Player of the Match Rachel McLaughlan gave them a first-half lead with an outstanding strike.

Lizzie Arnott sealed the win with a shot from the edge of the Hearts area in the 86th minute.

Esson (33) joined Rangers in 2022 after playing with German Bundesliga side SC Sand and Norwegian side Avaldsnes.

The Christchurch-born goalkeeper played her club football for Coastal Spirit and North Shore United in New Zealand, and was part of the national squad at the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups.

She’s been selected for the Ferns squad to play a two-match series against Japan in Spain, in early June.
