Football Ferns ‘keeper Vic Esson collects Scottish cup winner’s medal

New Zealand international goalkeeper Vic Esson has collected a winner’s medal after her Rangers side cruised to a 4-1 win in the final of Scotland’s SWPL Cup against Partick Thistle.

Rangers retained the Sky Sports-sponsored SWPL Cup, which they won last season, before more than 4,000 spectators at Tynecastle, a record for the final.

The win keeps Rangers on track to become only the second Scottish team to win all three domestic trophies, as the side leads the the Scottish Women’s Premier League by a point and has reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Women’s Cup.

Vic Esson … named in the Ferns squad to face Thailand in a two-match series in Christchurch.

Esson (33) joined Rangers in 2022 after playing with German Bundesliga side SC Sand and Norwegian side Avaldsnes.

The Christchurch-born goalkeeper played her club football for Coastal Spirit and North Shore United in New Zealand, and was part of the national squad at the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups.

She has been selected for the Ferns to play Thailand in Christchurch on April 6 and April 9.
