Jim Connor’s 57 years of involvement with Miramar Rangers has been recognised with a Life Membership.

Since first turning up at Miramar Park in 1965, Connor has variously been a player, committee member, club captain, club secretary and club treasurer, as well as passionately supporting teams from the sidelines.

He was elected a Life Member at the club’s 2023 Annual General Meeting, held on February 13.

In a tribute to Connor, the club said he had played 50 continuous seasons of football, retiring in 2015 when he reluctantly hung up his boots due to the disbanding of the club’s master’s team.

“Jim’s achievements on the football field are also impressive, as he was the captain of the1980 1st Division Championship team that won the Venus Shield.” the club’s tribute says.

“He went on to win the Venus Shield on two other occasions with the club. Jim also won several club trophies during his stellar time as a player at Miramar.”

These included the Hartill Cup, Coad Family Cup, Cameron Cup and Elsie Taylor Memorial Rose Bowl.

Off the pitch, Connor was a dedicated volunteer, serving as a committee member (1977, 1997 and 2006-2007), club captain (1994 and 1995), club secretary (2009) and club treasurer (2012 – 2015).

“Jim would be one of the first to volunteer his time to participate in bottle drives, club raffles or any maintenance projects on the clubhouse or the grounds area at the old centennial park.

“Today, Jim can still be found on the side-lines cheering on his Miramar as he would call them.

“Jim’s commitment to Miramar Rangers as a player, committee member and supporter has never wavered.

“His total dedication as a one club man to Miramar Rangers for 57 years, will be rewarded with his name placed on the honours board as a Life Member of Miramar Rangers.”

Club elects Life Members

At their AGM, Miramar Rangers members also elected Rosie Telford and Ryan Holland as Life Members.
