Five teams remain unbeaten in the top men’s and women’s competitions in the Northern and WaiBOP regions — but two had to survive late scares.
Champions-elect Northern Rovers drew 2-2 with Ellerslie in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League, after conceding a late leveller, but kept their 18-match unbeaten run safe.
Ngaruawahia United needed an Alfie Cole goal four minutes into stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw with Claudelands Rovers in the Lotto NRFL second division, but their 15-match unbeaten streak remains intact.
The three other sides trying to go unbeaten through 2022 are Hibiscus Coast (who won 5-0 in the NRF Women’s Championship), Waikato Unicol (5-0 winners in the WaiBOP Premiership) and Northern League winners Auckland City who were engaged in the OFC Champions League.
