Paul Marshall joins Manurewa coaching staff for Northern League campaign

Veteran coach Paul Marshall has joined the coaching staff at newly-promoted Northern League club Manurewa.

Marshall will help head coach Rhys Ruka as the club turns to the top tier of regional football, after leaving his role as Director of Football at Lotto NRFL Premiership club Onehunga Mangere United.

Announcing the move, Manurewa told social media followers: “Marshy’s no stranger to Manurewa, having played for the first team in the early 1980s and lifting the Chatham Cup for our club in 1984.

Some of his coaching successes include taking Auckland City to the FIFA Club World Cup in 2006 and leading Central United, Waitakere United and Auckland City to National League titles.

Ruka says: “I’m absolutely delighted to have Marshy on board for 2023 and beyond. My desire to bring success to this football club is obviously very strong so the opportunity to work with a coach who I not only trust implicitly, but someone who has been there and done it all in terms of winning things in this country, is something that I am very proud of.

“Everything happened very quickly and I would like to thank the club very much for getting Paul over the line.”

Marshall has coached at Auckland City, Three Kings United, Central United and Bay Olympic. He also had a spell as assistant coach at English club Portsmouth’s academy.

He took Auckland City to the FIFA Club World Cup in 2006 and led Central United, Waitakere United and Auckland City to National League titles. He had Chatham Cup success with Three Kings, and led Bay Olympic to promotion to the Northern League.
