Ditch removal at Cambridge will lead to more full-sized pitches

posted in: Club noticeboard, News

Work is underway at Cambridge FC’s John Kerkhof Park that will provide two new full-sized pitches next year.

The Waipā District Council, who lease the grounds to the club, are filling in a drain that runs between the club’s senior and junior pitches.

The upgrade — estimated to cost $900,000 — will see the new pitches available for Cambridge’s 75th jubilee season in 2023.

For many years, players — usually goalkeepers — have had to clamber into the ditch to recover wayward balls.

While the work will take away the open ditch, it will also enable the extension of two club pitches to full size, and provide more space (to the right of the above photo) for more pitches.
