Waikato referee CK Kawana-Waugh has made his first appearance at the FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup.
Kawana-Waugh, the sole New Zealand official in the tournament’s pool of 25, refereed Tuesday’s pool game between Gambia and Honduras.
The game was won 2-1 by Gambia and got off to a flying start with both sides scoring in the opening five minutes.
Honduras were denied an equaliser after a VAR review eight minutes into stoppage time.
Kawana-Waugh, who is the referee manager for WaiBOP Football,was selected by FIFA’s Referees Committee for the tournament in Argentina.
