A goal by All Whites striker Chris Wood helped his Newcastle United side to a 3-0 Boxing Day win against Leicester City in the English Premier League.

Wood (31) smashed a penalty into the middle of the net as Leicester ‘keeper Danny Ward dived to his left, giving United a third-minute lead.

It was Wood’s fifth career goal against his former club, and was a reward for his patience in looking for a return to Newcastle’s starting line-up.

Wood led the forward line till his substitution in the 88th minute.

The win lifted Newcastle United into second place on the EPL ladder.

After the game, Wood enjoyed taking part in the post-match television interviews, making some endearing comments about teammate Bruno Guimaraes who won the Man of the Match award.

“He’s quality,” Wood said of Guimaraes as the pair appeared live on Amazon Sport. “His quality is becoming our normal which is scary because he’s that good. So we’re thankful to have him. He’s a fantastic player and he’s always the difference maker. That’s the best thing about it.”

Guimaraes smiled and replied: “You’re going to make me cry, my friend. Thank you so much.”
