Manukau United keen to bounce back in Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship

Relegated Manukau United are looking for an immediate return to the Northern League under head coach Tashreeq Davids.

The South Auckland club will compete in the Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship in 2024 and have confirmed Davids will lead the squad after helping in the role during a badly-disrupted 2023 season.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to lead a fresh and full season in the head coach role at Manukau,” Davids has told supporters through the club’s social media.

“As a South Auckland local, and with a passion for developing footballers to excel and achieve their potential, there’s a lot to be excited about for 2024.”

The club says a return to the Northern League by the end of 2024 is its aim, as well as strengthening youth pathways and working with clubs and communities in football’s “greatest kept secret, here in South Auckland.”

Davids, who is aiming to complete his OFC/NZF B Licence, has five years’ continuous coaching experience.

“I play a demanding and cohesive style of football that embraces the diversity of skill-sets that go largely undervalued in NZ football structures — there is so much talent in South Auckland and huge potential, my job is to bring that all together and guide a winning team that makes region proud,” he says.

Manukau United finished bottom of the 2023 Northern League and were relegated with Takapuna.
